Electron Capture is more like the ability of an atom to hold and extra electron. Not to convert protons to neutrons. But just to hold the extra charge of the extra electron. Hallogens are very good in electron capture. An ECD electron capture detector is an instrument used to measure compounds that have hallogen atoms. Like chloroform

Remember what he said about electrons gaining energy to jump from lower orbit to higher. The opposite happens when electron is low on energy and is in the zero orbit, it gets sucked into the nucleus.

@ACPCalin It`s because the mass of an eletron is irrelevant compared with the mass of the a proton. It is 1/1836 of the mass of a proton.

Why does gamma decay release a gamma ray and electron capture an x-ray if the process is the same i.e. electrons moving between energy levels?

doubt: would someone be able to shoot an electron into a nucleus to form a neutron without using or affecting in some way the original electrons from the atom? or would the electrons from the atom create some sort of electromagnetic shield that deviates the electron we shoot? or would we be able to provide sufficient impulse or force to break the electric barrier? or any ideas???

No, a neutron does not weigh the exact same amount as a proton.  

While they are very close in mass, a neutron is slightly heavier than a proton. The difference is small but measurable.

How can a protona  a neutron weigh exactly the same, but still a neutron ca turn into a proton and an electron? Then it would also gain the weight of the electron, and matter can't just appear like that???

Hope someone cn answer this, and I'm sorry if i didn't explain my question good enough...
