ive heard so many performers sing this number and i dont think any will ever top this. the bitter sardonic apathetic-yet-accepting tone the resignation... no one else ive heard has come close to embodying the role in this number specifically as well as this

I have listened to two other versions of this song and nothing hits better than this version

One of the most PERFECT musical theatre songs ever written. It accomplishes everything a theatre song is supposed to do. It's an extention of the dialoge, the lyrics are conversational, it's melodic, the melody mimmicks the natural inflection of the lyrics even if they were just spoken, it establishes character, it even even establishes a metaphoric philosophy of the 'outside world' in the story. The list goes on and on...

I was cast down...stripped of my power...EXILED. I suffered...indignities...and fell into darkness...
Who cares? So what?

Came here because of Kreia, stayed because of Fraulein Schneider. Sara Kestelman is fantastic and deserves more praise for all her work.

I love the chords in this song. Perfectly broody but playful and her voice is such a lovely intonation on top.

She has an electric edge to her voice that really makes this song come alive. I like her rendition very much.

“When I was a girl, my summers were spent by the sea….
So what?!”

I love how she starts to tell a story like so many other songs in so many other musicals, but she acknowledges that none of it really matters to the audience!
Kander & Ebb were true revolutionaries!!

She could actually portray a live-action Kreia. That's awesome.

"To be united by hatred is a fragile alliance at best." So what?

90% of the comments are about Kreia and nothing related to Cabaret or the song itself.

So what?

She absolutely killed this! My favorite song from this, just her whole performance, her acting... it's just so amazing!! 💓

Every little bit of this is perfect. Love how she does limited moments to show her reserved nature, how she uses her face and her voice to slightly emote but not drastically. She truly embodies the widow who has seen so much and holds on to her pragmatism above anything whilst still having a softer side that she subtly shows.

We can learn something from the sentiment of these lyrics.  It isn't apathy, like some comments say. It's acceptance of the cards we're dealt, without becoming a victim. Life goes on, without regard for us or our problems, and we must make the best of it. That doesn't mean we're apathetic, but it means that we continue to look past whatever happens, not dwell on things and just keep going. Another way of saying, keep calm and carry on.

I have to comment yet again. Perfect performance. A lady and mother, we all miss. 😊
Sometimes I miss real theater.
