It never happened to me though. The closest thing was when they would fly in the air!

You know, for all these years of playing nfsu2 I've never seen them get catapulted out of nowhere like that... The rubberbanding i experienced was only AIs closing in the gap when it's too far and slowing down when they're far ahead (so courteous).

AI went "You'll never catch me, Player, not when I shift into MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE!" And then went seizure.

Happens with UG1 too especially if you don't lock the game's FPS to 60 plus not turning on V-Sync (GTA games suffers from the same problem too)

the rubberbanding was much more noticeable in most wanted when the ai suddenly gets too far behind and then breaks the speed barrier to overtake your vehicle. worst part was it often happened at a point in time near the end of a race.

This is insanely intense if you make a 9999hp SUV race.. Its insane how they rubberband

Yep, same in the original. Even following the map cursors it's easy to see the rubber banding. You're running perfect, no collisions & the AI a half-lap back approaching a hairpin suddenly starts gaining ground like you're sitting still.

this killed me in ridge racer evolution back in the days, where the ai could steer while beeing in midair and make 90 degree turns while flying

I remember when I was like 5, I was doing an URL race and winning when suddenly a fucking 350z went flying, passed me while it was 1000m in the air, landed and won the race.

I've noticed that happening when you turn off Vsync from the game's graphics settings. Vsync also breaks car sounds when off. Keep it on.
