How to make the simplified version of the origami Eagle (Bald Eagle or American Eagle)
Designed by Jo Nakashima (01/2018)

In this tutorial you'll learn how to make an origami Eagle step by step. This is a simplified version of the American Eagle v2. Although I call it “simplified”, it doesn’t means it is simple: it is just simpler than the original version, but actually it is still a bit complex.
One advantage is that it takes only half of the time to fold compared to the normal version. In addition, it is more suitable for smaller sheets of paper.
It can sit nicely on your finger or other support!

Hey, here are some tips if you're giving it a shot ;)

-"Simplified" does not mean "simple". It means "simpler" than the original.
-Watch the entire thing first and pay attention to which part becomes what, especially the wings and feet
-Use a bigger sheet than 20cm x 20cm, many small folds can quickly become a nightmare if you don't (I used 40cm x 40xcm, it worked fine)
-From 24:30 to 27:40, many folds have to be inverted. It'll be much easier to do this if you crease each fold very well while you're still at 17:40 - 21:40
-Listen to some music (or anything that helps you relax) while doing this. If you get too tense you're going to mess up (you really will XP)

It's amazing how one piece of paper can be turned into a piece of art

I've finally completed the fold, and it looks pretty good! Thanks for making the tutorial easy to follow up, Jo Nakashima!

Simple. SIMPLE. If this is the "simple" version, how terrifying is the original???

I was obsessed with origami as a kid. I remember they had a book with instructions on how to create an origami eagle (I don't remember if it was this same one, but it was definitely very advanced). And even with the instructions in the book I got lost. Im glad I found this! I will definitely give this a shot.

When I watched your videos I was much smaller, I was impatient and it was hard for me to keep up with you, but little by little I kept learning more and it's less and less difficult for me. Origami has been one of the practices that I am most passionate about, it relaxes me, it helps me release my stress for as long as it seems, the art of creating life with paper, creating beauty in something simple.

You show the right speed for origami tutorial. And also the sound of paper folded is so ear satisfying. Good job.

Awesome origami, here's a tip:
On a smaller piece of paper than the original 20x20 it's super hard, especially if it's not thin enough. I somehow did it on the 15x15, but I don't recommend any smaller than that.

Jo, thank you so much for sharing your amazing design and taking the time to create such a comprehensive online tutorial. My tip for any beginner (like me) trying this model: use the paper type and colour that Jo provides a link to – it held a fold really well and made it easier - when following the video - to spot (and then fix) any discrepancies in my model.

How does one even come up with such folds? Whoever invented this is a freaking genius!

You make beautiful origami and your videos break down the folds so that it's easy to follow and end up with a beautiful piece of art, love your videos!

FYI if you are new to folding from video tutorials, it can be helpful to keep it paused most of the time, and use your keyboard forward arrow to just jump forward in small increments, keeping it paused, after each fold. Most folds are not complicated enough, at least in this video, for you to NEED to see video of them being done.

The worst is when:
I keep getting that one fold wrong
I do it over and over but it just looks worse
My fingers become sweaty
I get more frustrated
I finally am satisfied when redoing it for the fifth time
It is wrinkled and disgusting and i am once again unsatisfied.
