Small drumsticks are fun and fast but i end up cramping because I can’t hold them loosely, a large diameter helps me have less fatigue and probably less shock. Tony Williams played 2b….. it’s not just for metal

For anyone interested, I played 5a religiously for over ten years when I started drumset and when I tried the Carter McLean signatures I didn’t notice the thickness at all. Try those, they’re between a 5a and 5b

these are good and sensible reasons to use heavy sticks, which I will completely ignore and stick to 7As

I like the heavier sticks, too. Always seemed easier to control for me. I don't know if I'd "suggest" them, but I've been using the Zildjian nylon dipped/tipped 5B sticks. Well balanced, a little extra forward weight and hard to drop when you get too sweaty.

I only use marching sticks. I add extra weights to them, the remo drum head company really love me.

Jokes on you I can't play drums at all! My hands can't move independently like that 😔 Mad respect for people who can play drums

Hey- I used Vic Firth HD4 s for…mainly most of my “professional” career, mind you, that started in the Creative and Performing Arts HS of Philadelphia, and, I dropped out with 4 months left In senior year, and went to play mostly jazz gigs all over. (Then by 4-5 years later heroin addiction got in the way) but-
Those bc I was being very slightly sponsored by Vic Firth, and, otherwise used (like 7a’s but more cone shaped) John Reilley’s Zildjian sticks.
Now in classical training yes I used 5a’s…
But now I practice and do rock gigs, gospel/church gig Im greatfully signed on to, on heavier sticks, most of the time.
Im curious though as to your thoughts on- when I play a straight original jazz gig, like I did with my own co-led jazz quartet from 2009-2014… those lighter, pointier sticks…just really bring out the overtones in my K Constantinople bounce ride or, K custom session hihats…, etc etc. even still I will never use a cymbal that’s heavier than medium. And mostly play coated 1 ply Evans heads.
But. Opinions and training are very appreciated as, well, 18 months clean In about a week, I’m really shedding and wanting to get more into technique again and. Hopefully, maybe, more gigs too.
Thanks and thx for the video. !!! Thoughts???
