I'm 17 and in a transphobic household. In middle school I had transphobia myself, I believed things I heard. It is crazy to think how much I've changed and learned over the last four years, much in part to YouTubers like you. Thank you

Exactly. I was severely bullied and called a girl my entire life and once I came out as non-binary it’s been a hard “you’re just a man” ever since…

Samantha has really made me feel better about being trans overall and has made me more confident in being trans. She helped me realize that I am valid and loved. Thank you, Samantha

One of my kids is autistic (and perfect), and he likes to talk about what categories things are in. Sometimes he randomly and forcefully tells people, "I'm a boy. I'm NOT a girl!" Memes like the Simpsons one are why I'm always low-key anxious somebody is going to get all like, "Hey, are you telling this kid he has to be a girl?!"

I'm not telling him anything either way! He just likes declaring!

I was transphobic when I was growing up. I didn't know better. I was a product of my time. I've improved a lot and now I'm much more aware of how my thoughts, words, and actions impact others.

8:32 I was “dating” someone in middle school and my dad would call “him” my “girlfriend” because we’d do each other’s makeup and play with Barbies. Now, she’s a girl and I’m bisexual. (We’re not dating, but we’re still friends.)

I used to be transphobic but now I'm nonbinary. Turns out, I just hated myself and thought being awful to others would help.

I have heard of only ever one case of a cis child being told that they were trans. It happened several years ago in England, where a single mother was so obsessed with the notion that her son was transgender that she dressed him as a girl, and continually told him he was such. Eventually, the police and the local social work department (who handle child protection in the U.K.) became involved, and the child was placed in care.

The story only came to light however because the media got hold of it, and the right-wing British press inevitability used it to go on the attack of ALL transgender people, despite the fact that neither the child nor his misguided mother were trans. And of course, the same press also lambasted all single mothers based on this one woman. They also heaped praise on the Social Workers, which was utter hypocrisy, considering that Social Work is usually another favourite target for right-wing hacks.

Samantha you are such a great role model and your example is so needed in the monstrous trans-phobic USA. Love your videos.

I was never transphobic per se, but I definitely had some wrong ideas (I’m cis btw). I thought trans women kind of were reducing being a woman to things like makeup and dresses, when to me being a woman was other people treating me as a woman, but my understanding of gender has become a lot more nuanced since then

It always gets me when Simpsons fans try to claim it as conservative. It’s *incredibly* progressive 98% of the time. They even diss Fox.

We don't decide to be trans, we decide to transition.

Not specifically what you were asking for, but I used to be homophobic (and transphobic) and how I'm a lesbian. Funny how life works sometimes.

Have none of you been around kids, they have no filter at all. My Ex was 6' 3" with 64" hips, the amount of kids I heard say "she's really tall" or "that lady has a big butt" was almost daily. So yes kids are saying "is that a boy or girl" or "why is that man wearing a dress". Yes those are teachable moments about manners, but a trans person will still be that teaching moment.

The "is that a man or a woman" meme... the kid asking is pretty accurate. As a guy with long hair I heard that a lot when I was younger along with "mam why does that man have long hair" so yeah kids do ask that. Most parents I've encountered will usually reply with "why don't you ask them?" Or "because they want to"

I still remember o e little girl about 20 years ago in Ireland asking her dad why I had long hair and when he replied "well if you want to know why don't you ask him" then she shyly replied "I don't want to know you do you ask him" me and the dad were both trying our best not to crack up
