Tavira living - relocating to PORTUGAL

Hi, I'm Nick and I've been living here in the Algarve for 20 years and I'm keen to let you know all about the region. I worked in Tavira for a good few years, so a lot of memories came flooding back while I made this video. Any questions, drop them in the comments and I'll try and answer.

Tavira is one of my favorite towns in the Algarve. In fact it is the only town there where we have visited and stayed in on several occasions. I have never really been that interested in the region west of Faro other than a trip to Silves and Sagres some years ago when I first arrived in Portugal. Once the pandemic slows down a bit I want to revisit these places. We had been spending our end of year holidays in Tavira for about five years straight until the pandemic hit. We would rent apartments and stay for a very low price much cheaper than a hotel, especially when you are two families. Up north in Chaves the winter can be quite cold with average highs around 8º while in Tavira they are around 18º. Tourists walk around in shorts and tshirts at the end of December. Not locals of course because for them it is very cold. We really like Tavira because it is not infested with tourists, still has a beautiful traditional architecture, and has relatively low prices for restaurants compared to other places in the Algarve. Inland from Tavira, following the Gilão river, the river valley is lined with orange groves. Very nice.

That’s exactly how it is. You have to be able to respect the Portuguese way. The manner they typically go about business is precisely as Nick details it. So chill and go with the flow. It’s a lot more about lifestyle than what you perceive you have. The world’s a better place when the sun shines as it does “most” of the time here.
