One dude knows this already, because I explained the principle very briefly, in which I said "just git'r'done!".
Anyway, this'll BURN! Although a green-blue smoke isn't oftenly a good thing...

I recently decided to mess around with the game engine once more. I had to map an image of a bullet onto a plane (with transparency of course) but I had no clue how to enable the alpha until I watched this video. To this day you are a complete lifesaver! Thanks for the tutorial!

if you want the texture to glow btw, (I needed it for an EOTech Sight) set the material to VCol Light and Shadeless. Great tut! Thanks a bunch.

Well, I use Photoshop sometimes, but I didn't have any problem with any outlines. Sure, I wasn't even looking when drawing smoke textures.

You have to put your draw mode to shaded (alt+z) and maybe put on GLSL materials in the Game menu for a nice effect ;)

Hm... that may be weirder than I thought... plus there's no previous message on your comment, so there goes 10 minutes of experimenting...

I guess the Blender internal editor isn't exactly fine-tuned to get the edges ALPHA-ed correctly.
Try getting you material with no specularity, let me know if it still is the same.
