fix slipping shift lever, worn splines, 5 min fix, pin

the splines on the shaft were wearing out and the lever would slip occasionally. one pin prevented it from moving and fixed the problem. there is more information online about pin diameter to shaft relation. depending on how bad the splines are. if this doesnt work, you could also replace the shaft and lever. the lever was stripped out so a bolt and nut was put on. to help clamp force, drilled and used a bolt and nut through the whole thing.

if you anyone sees an 93 kx125 with this done, it was stolen

dude absolutely amazing! my leever started slipping and wore out and was just flopping all over the place to my hearts discontent. i found this video and was out of options so i just winged it. went and bought a drill. took forever to drill and was very miserable in the hot sonne. eventually just kind of settled for an almost hole. stuck the clamp pedal on and called it good. so far its getting me to work and back . truly appreciate you posting this vid. only one i could find

Just drilled and pegged my shifter on my 87 Harley .Splines were worn to shit . This saved me from tearing the inner primary off to replace the worn shift rod. I ve seen the drill and peg method for locking a spinningbearing and bushing together, never thought to try it on the shifter . Thanks

Thank you for posting this... it did the trick for a temporary repair to either last until winter, or until I sell the bike...

I drilled two 5/32" holes and used 5/32" tension (sometimes called "roll") pins. Did the trick. Can't see how it is not a permanent fix. Thanks for the idea.

Guys, I have another idea that will work. Just be super careful! Put your shifter on, and line up where you are going to drill your hole, then take it back off. Drill a hole through, going straight down into the shaft. Try to hit dead center of the shaft too! Stick a skinny bolt through it. Problem solved. Just don’t drill a huge hole. You definitely don’t want to mess TOO much with the strength/durability of your shaft.

That's a clever idea, thanks. Though I imagine cutting metal parts would take me at least an hour and 5 min fix.

that is smart. i never thought of that. i tryed glue and tape so it had more to clamp on. My friend is welding it up soon

Good afternoon. I used 1/8 titanium bits with a titanium nitride finish, high speed but I can't drill the pedal or the tip. The part is DW1308 G. I bought those because they had great feedback. It didn't work. I don't think there are any bits that actually drill through very hard metal. It's a Harley Iron 883. I hope I don't have to call a tow truck one of these days =

I’m gonna have to try this but gonna tap the hole and put a bolt there so I don’t have to get the grinder out to get it off down the road lol, still smart thinking though

How long did this last you? And why do you not recommend welding?
