hi mysticat! i am an artist & i thought this might help even though the video is already to complete. the background tree idea you were doing didn't work because you made the blocks for the trees *darker, * when what you need to do to make them appear further in the background is *softly layer the sky color overtop of the original blocks!* i don't know how interested you will be in this but i thought it was neat to talk about, since i can tell you're a little new to that bit :]
