This is a great video, step by step explanation, most things waiting for are worth it, the man took his time to explain and teach us what we need in making an using the universal knot.

If you don’t fish a lot it will be fine to just use the uni knot. But there are stronger knots. The uni knot gives you about 80 percent of line strength. For 100 percent line strength you need to tie the following.
For fluorocarbon tie a double San Diego jam.
For braid tie the double uni knot.
For braid to leader tie a FG knot.
I have not personally tested knots for monofilament so I don’t know what the best know for it is.
That is just from my own personal tests.
Good video keep up the work.

Great how to video - Thanks. Wouldn't it be a lot easier to just take the spool out of the baitcaster though? Then thread the line through the reel; cinch the knot on the spool and then put the spool back in?

"Knot" bad at all! Someone had to say it 😂 great video. Such a useful knot. I really do need to add some new knots to my repertoire.

I pull the spool on my bait casters out the side and pass the line through the winding guide and out the side. Then I tie the line on the spool as you show and re-seat the spool. If the line has a large diameter and the hole for the spool is tight, you may have to wiggle it thru a bit. I find the double-uni tends to catch on microguides. I prefer the blood-knot.

I use the uniknot for tying on hooks for bait. But for jigs or hard plastic lures I use a loop knot. The loop is good for the lure's action. And for tying mono leader to braid I use another knot, modified Albright I believe it's called. That's all the knots I need.

Double Davy is better for fly fishing. Less tag end waste

A spool is not a reel, but every reel has a spool!

A little constructive criticism: I passed on watching this video because of its length. If it takes you almost a half hour to explain and demonstrate a knot, I'm not interested.

Palomar is the one that does it all. Grow up. Or, just read.
