We no longer need the electoral college.

Kennedy actually won the popular vote in 1960, too. My default is to respect a law professor like this guy, but unfortunately he was talking out of his ass.

Took me a long time to admit that some of my parents ideas were wrong. I now willingly admit that this professor is totally wrong. Education has not made his argument one iota better. High IQ does not mean good critical thinking. Democracy means the majority wins[ as in for the good of all].Maybe this professor needs more fingers and toes to count?

Well he didn't make his point....that was laughable.

It's been time to get rid of it since at least 1824.

I didn't understand the professor's point at all. His arguments FOR the electoral college sounded exactly like reasons to be AGAINST it.

OH HELL YES, Get rid of the Electoral College! No, I do not agree with ANY rationale that touts keeping it in place. It's just WRONG!

I'm still not getting it? Wasn't there a tally of the popular vote anyway? The elector is irrelevant to most people.

We had 2 bad choices in 2016 and now we have 2 bad choices in 2020. What Democracy? We have an oligarchy.

I don't think he could hear himself at all.

In France you can win with lets say ~20% initial votes because they have rule that president must have 50% + 1 vote to be elected. If nobody gets 50%+, then a second round is being called between 2 candidates with the most votes. And here is an example where you can win with ~20% initial votes: you have 5 candidates and they all get about the same percentage of votes: around 20%. The second phase of voting is being called 3 weeks later between two best candidates from first phase. Because you just have 2 candidates, one of them for sure will get 50% of valid votes.

This topic is my main beef with the American voting system. I don't know why it exists.

This was frustrating to listen to. I have a feeling the guest was operating on the assumption that we would also abolish our two party system. That’s the only way someone could be elected president with 23% of the popular vote. I always thought that if we abolished the electoral college, we would maintain our two party system. I could be wrong however.

This Professor's said people aren't voting for the candidate they vote for? Instead we actually are voting for an Electoral Collage representative? How do people know who they are? The debate was over why should it, " the Collage" had no reason, aside from, "Kennedy did it", and Kennedy won the popular vote. I've never heard a great reason for the Electoral Collage.... threshold issue?
