Three Los Angeles City Councilmembers will be joined by other officials at a press conference Tuesday to propose a ban on cashless businesses in the city. The motion, first introduced by Councilwoman Heather Hutt (District 10) in August 2023, looks to ensure an inclusive and equitable economy for all Angelenos, a press release stated.

It's called LEGAL TENDER for a reason.

If anything, we should ban businesses that don't accept cards.

They're the ones evading taxes and also making things difficult for consumers.

The council members are concerned that cashless businesses are discriminating against robbers.

LA should stay cashless. Way too much crime

Unless police start providing security to prevent cash from being stolen (and reimbursement), then cashless should be allowed.

This is one thing I actually agree with the LA city council

A ban shouldn't be needed on these businesses.
They should be fined for not allowing the customer the option to pay with cash.

Extend this idea out and you could argue that the business could be shut down because it's discriminating against people who don't have enough money to buy their product. It's insanity.

It’s the only thing I agree with CA voters on.

Main reason… cashless transactions have turned tipping into an absolute clown show.

The BIGGEST reason business owners are advocates for cashless transactions is so they can force tipping on the consumers and pay their employees less… plain and simple.

Always stick with cash. You never know when you really needed. Oh and also ban pennies.

If I own a small business, I have no problem accepting cash as it is easier to evade the tax system.

Feels like they're talking about issues that aren't even issues.

This is a very tough one because I don’t like the government tracking every transaction and I also know that businesses are tired of getting robbed for the cash in the register

Quick we need to check our government overreaction with more government overreaction!

They should also ban cash only while they’re at it.

So businesses are tired of getting robbed and the police don't do anything, the DA doesn't keep the criminals in jails but you ban cashless instead of going after criminals?
Who is this day and time doesn't have a debit card or bank card? You can go to cvs and get a prepaid card and add cash to it. I'm so glad the officials have their acts so together that they have the time to waste on this crap. Let their businesses constantly and repeatedly robbed and let's see how they like it.
