Making a Fabriano Artistico Painting Board

I love Fabriano Artistico Hot Press Extra White paper so much, I can't bring myself to paint on anything else. Glueing the paper onto board with matt medium provides a very solid, permanent surface for painting with gouache (or watercolour or acrylic) and, in particular, gold leaf.

I feel your love for good watercolour paper & would like to try this technique - but do you use a varnish or a medium glaze over the top to protect the surface?
