My name is Rob, and I am a Postdoctoral researcher based in Vienna, Austria. In this video I will talk about the three new sensors of the FitBit Sense, which will be released in a few days. I will discuss how they work from a scientific perspective, what they can do and I’ll also talk about the limitations of these sensors.

The Fitbit sense can do a lot, and many of those things were already present in previous generations of Fitbits. However, its major selling points revolve around the three new sensors:
First of all, the ECG sensor, which can detect Atrial Fibrillation.
Second, the temperature sensor, which they want to use to detect fever, like some people experience if they are infected with COVID-19
Finally, the electrodermal activity or EDA sensor. Which Fitbit hopes can measure the body’s response to stress, by measuring small changes in the sweat level of your skin

I’ll discuss the features of each of these sensors in turn: explaining how and if possible how well they work, and I’ll try to give some scientific background. As always, I don’t want to waste your time, so you can find the timestamps in the description and on the timeline below.

Thanks for watching, and see you in the next video!

Nice video, excellent to see an in depth review of the scientific data behind the new sensors. I liked the interrogation of the FDA 510k too.

I was looking between sense, scanwatch and series 6... amazon HAD the fitbit sense for 306... but then they put it back up to 329...
I was going to get the Fitbit Sense but then sleeping on the decision, the price went up the next day so I told myself to wait.
I'll wait until reviews of the watch comes out. Then I'll decide in 2021.

5:12 - It's *atrial* fibrillation (AF), not arterial fibrillation. AF is also not necessarily an 'accelerated heart rate' as more often than not, people in AF (ie. fibrillating *atria*) often have a normal heart rate, but the point is that it is *irregular*. When the heart rate is too fast, it's *rapid* AF - that's a different beast entirely and can be more difficult to detect.

Really like your videos. You give the information clearly quickly and enthusiastically. Wish more videos gave so much information in a short period. Really get tired of people telling their life stories while supplying tech information.

A sleep tracking comparison would be nice, like: Versa 2/3 vs AW6 vs S3 vs Sense

I currently wear the Fitbit Versa (original) and have pre-ordered the Sense. I am turned off by the Apple watch due to the battery life. I don't want to deal with the drama of charging the Apple watch every 18 hours or so. I really like my Versa and feel the company makes a good product. My 2 cents!

Have you considered testing any of the Chinese smartbands/watches? They are lower quality, but for $30 you can get ECG+HR+SpO2+temperature. The sensors exist and they do report actual data (not faked), but ive yet to see anyone test how accurate they are compared to high end/professional testing device. An example device you could test is an "E66 band" (has temp) or "P10 smart band" (no temp but more blood sensors). Id love to see you test one of these.
