You can actually get the 2 weekly pinnacle caches for veteran gear prior to being level 80. A few are locked behind lvl 80 quests but many aren’t. You can get it from the lighting 4 lesser keyflames, the AK weekly rep meta, and the special missions. If you level multiple toons over time with rested XP and do delves and timewalking dungeons, you will actually have vault options waiting for you right when they hit 80. Many of my remix alt army characters have a bunch of veteran pieces in bags, and weeks of vaults just waiting for them to hit 80

If you have a main that has been through the delves and you've completed the Delver's Journey season 1 you can also purchase full adventurer 4/10 gear with undercoin.

This point where people need to start doing raids or mythic+ with their alts is reached within like a week. But at that point things get rough. The gear is really not high enough to pug those. And "lower keys" are like insanely hard compared to the crafting and delves. And most people increasingly wont take these low ilvl characters into their groups.

I'm not sure if I missed something, but I've got a hunter with engineering, and it seems like the only gear I can manufacture is mail since it is what I'm be able to wear. Is it really impossible for me to craft cloth, leather or plate on this char?
