Residents not getting mail due to mailman's fear of dogs

Residents in one Kansas City neighborhood are having problems getting their mail because their mailman is afraid of their dogs, and runs away from their houses before delivering their post. The mailman and post office said they are working on getting him a new, less-dog-filled route.

I was a carrier for 23 years and after being bit by those " oh, they won't bite dogs" a few times, you just don't want to take any more chances.

I am a new carrier, and my first day I was chased by a dog. I have always loved dogs before but now I have never feared dogs more than I do now. "He won't bite"" means nothing to a mail carrier.

My Husband had a dog LITERALLY jump out of the window to attack him....He jumped on the owners car to get away from the dog....He stopped the delivery of her mail for SIX months😛

Put the mail boxes at the edge of the road. Problem solved. Then the mailman doesn't need to walk 50 miles a day up and down properties delivering the mail as well.

I have been bitten several times. Each time I have been told it is the first time he has ever bitten anyone. The PO keeps records of every bite, attack and aggressive dog. When The Supervisors check to see if there was any trouble with the dog before we always find problems with the dog attacking or biting other carriers and the residents always promise to keep the dog away from the mailbox. The residents NEVER keep the dog chained or isolated away from the Mailbox. It doesn't matter if a new Mail Carrier takes over the route. If these dogs are that aggressive the next Carrier will refuse to deliver and cut off the house. He shouldn't even be trying to deliver to the house. God forbid the dog is ever loose it could be his last day on earth.

LMAO "she's friendly, just don't like the mailman". That really makes me want to deliver your mail! But I'm a carrier & it's kinda ridiculous to not deliver when a dog is inside the home.

I'm a letter carrier for over 20 years. Let these people get bit once by a dog that someone tells them "they won't bite!" and see if they would trust someone saying that ever again!

So the glass door can't possibly be cracked open, so the dog can run right through it? It's happened to me. Luckily management will back me up. They've told me if I even THINK there might be danger, I'm not to enter the property.

When somebody says they're big dog won't bite I'd like to see them walking to somebody else's yard that the dog doesn't know you and the people there say their dog doesn't bite

Much as I love and care for dogs, I can appreciate the guy's apprehension and reluctance. Fear of dogs is not something you can ignore, and there is a reason to fear SOMETIMES.

I refuse to deliver mail to homed where only the screen door is shut but a big dog is behind the glass. Close both doors

No delivery person has to deliver to a home if there are dogs out, it's better not to deliver than to get sued

I used to deliver pizza to these kinds of people there the dog would be barking with slopper coming out of his mouth like he'd break the door down any second and who knows if the door is shut all the way it's like you're setting your to learn this behavior and it's ok. Dogs really can sense fear and I'm sure the guy feared him because on his deliveries he probably encounters these episodes of wondering if this will be the time he gets mauled you should have to go get your own damn mail and stop antagonizing people with your dog
