The best prelude #1. The voicing is incredible and the tone is just sumptuous.

Pletnev is definitely one of the giants of the piano and a prominent icon for music-making in the 20th century. The work performed here is really versatile and does not obey a certain point of view or interpretation. Hence, highly subjective performances are available in the library of Chopin through studio recordings or live events. but here we almost got some inconsistency and mannerism in most of the numbers, but after all, it is Pletnev on the stage..Bravissimo maestro

This performance confirms for me that all music is subject to interpretation. But only someone who has mastered the instrument and the full range of expression it affords can produce a unique and personal interpretation that is still true to the composer’s intent. Truly a life well lived. Bravo!

I attended the concerts in Palermo this past January 24th and 25th. Pletnev was in great form on the first day, positive and energized, and the audience was ecstatic. On the 25th, he appeared tired from the start and physically uncomfortable, and the concert was spiritless. He did play "Vanishing Days, " a Grieg lyric piece, as an encore and appeared in a hurry to disappear. Friends who tried to reach out to him after the concert were shocked by an overtly unpleasant attitude while he was being whisked away from the concert. Why not cancel the concert if you are not well? Why subject people to subpar performances and then the nasty side of your character that others have described previously.?
Genius or no genius, he is out there performing widely, and people are buying tickets to see him, listen to him, and celebrate him. I certainly will no longer do any of that. I am turned off by the whole experience. Genius does not excuse nastiness to the public; nastiness makes me question his " respectful connection" with the music.
