Legendary actor, comedian, writer and producer Steve Coogan was born in Lancashire. His career began on Spitting Image in the 80s, and he is most celebrated for his portrayal of the iconic Alan Partridge. He has earned critical acclaim for roles in Philomena, Stan & Ollie and The Reckoning, in which he played Jimmy Savile, and is back on the West End stage after a 28-year hiatus for a sold-out run of Dr Strangelove. His new Channel 4 drama, Brian and Maggie, is out now.

Nick mixes a non-alcoholic Mother Root for Steve, while Angela prepares one his favourite meals, a potato, cheese & onion pie. The experts at Waitrose pair this with a Le Arenarie Vermentino di Gallura. For dessert, our trio tuck into a rhubarb & pear crumble.

Steve Coogan gives some hilarious insights into his cult show The Trip with Rob Brydon, sharing a great story about Anna Wintour. He talks Alan Partridge, of course, and weighs in on the best way to heat baked beans.

Love seeing a comedian genuinely laugh at a story like that.

It's nice to watch 3 people enjoy each other's company without any negativity.

something I love from this show is how the entire crew is audible. No "silence on set" for the crew. They're as much part of the show as the guest and hosts.

I love hearing Nick talk about his family 💛

My dad did the same thing! Any time we were at a busy restaurant with good food, we could count down to him saying, "This place isn't a restaurant; it's a gold mine!" 😂

My dad would always do a very similar thing, except he would always say “They were shut.” while hiding the bag.

Every single time without fail 😂

That anecdote was pure gold for Steve. It was almost like witnessing the birth of one of his characters. I always remember him talking fondly of Peter Kaye on the DVD commentary for 24 Hour Party People. Kaye had adlibbed a line in the film, talking about his Jaguar car. 'She's thirsty!'. Steve loved that. There is something unique about Manchester/North West humour. All of the little throw away sayings.

Coogan has totally chilled out as he's gotten older. He was such a powerhouse of energy and now he's got nothing to prove

I remember after school in winter (8 degrees- that’s cold for us in Australia!) we’d go to the local fish and chips shop and get “a dollar’s worth of chips” and some potato scallops. They’d be served wrapped in butcher’s paper saturated in salt and vinegar and you’d burn your mouth eating them they were so hot! My dad was the local bank manager in a small town so for me, I didn’t even have to pay for the chips 😂😂

We used to have swimming lessons on a Friday night, and we’d have chippy tea afterward that we collected en route home. I loved it. 😊

Growing up back in the 90's or even before that was such a mood every household had their own shannanigans 😂

As a kid we called them scrap's and got them for free at the chip shop 😊 we smothered them in salt and vinegar so unhealthy but 😋

I don't know why, but this is the most I've enjoyed a clip of anything in so long 🤣

I love this.
We always call them scraps in Yorkshire and my son at about 4 asked ‘can we have those … you know…. Squabbly bits on?’
He also did this cute gesture with his fingers like he was sprinkling salt.

He couldn’t remember the name scraps but 15 years later when asking for the order from the family we ask who wants squabbly bits?

It just stuck and I can’t not say it and have to fight the urge in the shop to say it wrong on purpose ❤

That does actually sound like a phrase one of Coogan’s characters would say. “Bloody ‘ell, it were a goldmine in there!”

I sometimes wish I could enjoy company like this. Mostly, I find, that my friends are competing over the meal I have cooked and thinking how they can one-up me. So sad, cos all I want are friends who just want to enjoy being in company and not judging the food. Relax. Its fun to just be in each others company. Ah well.
