I have been making squares around trees instead of circles. It makes mowing a lot easier and it looks fantastic. No one does this, so my landscape stands out even more.

I just use my grass clippings without any digging. Just through them at the base and it will not allow the grass to grow. It’s also a great fertilizer and helps retain moisture.

I prefer the grass growing up to the tree. IMHO, it’s so much more work to deal with the mulch and weeds.

So you’re keeping it off the base of the tree in order to make sure you don’t have another root system growing higher than the original right?

You shoudl really make it clear not to use Preen around fruit trees.
