You should of made 1 cut with a hack saw, 1 cut with a grinder, 1 cut with a Sawzall, and 1 cut with the band saw. Just for educational purposes.

Last week, i cut a piece of sheet metal from a hood. I started with the grinder to make a gap for my air hammer (i wanted to tried it), the grinder was slow, well, like a grinder cuts. But when i tried my air hammer, that tool ate the sheet metal, i cut it so effortlesly and fast, i got impressed. So definitely, yeah, many tools can be better than a grinder at a given circumstance.

nice if the form factor fits that portable band saw, but a grinder is far more versatile, especially for curved cuts and large cuts

Great for stock with a small enough cross-section. Unfortunately, with such small wheels it can only accommodate cuts up to a certain size; perhaps 6" or so. A whiz-wheel or cutoff disc doesn't have that problem, although it does have other limitations and hazards.

It's not about using one or the other. It's about utilizing the best tool for the job, considering the circumstances and environment.

I need to cut some grade 80 #18 rebar to use a legs for a coffee table build would a portaband in a chop-saw stand be capable of making this cut or should i look into getting an abrasive chop saw?

Hey, genuine question. How do you know you have to change the blade? Is it similar to a sawzall blade that becomes more bluish with rounded tooth?
