You are exactly right, I served in a maximum security prison, and had to share cells with many a lifer, and if your a short timer, you are 1000% just a guest in that lifers "house". Most of them have been there for ever, and will never ever leave, so as a short timer, you need to respect that.

That's why lifers aren't supposed to be mixed in with those with short sentences. Either everyone is a lifer in that prison or they are short timers. A lifer can act ratched because that person has nothing to lose.

After I heard of the spitting into the toilet one a few years back it kinda made sense, while I've never been to jail, I've been doing that because the clean up is easy, just flush.

I always take off my shoes when I come home, and I'm not even in prison.

Haha girl you brought back memories. Ppl don't realize we even wash clothes n feet in toilets in there because of the harsh bleach and all the chemicals in the water. The way we clean our floors and stuff mid week with pads.its crazy though cuz once we get out its hard to not spit into the toilet or sleep with all your stuff in boxes next to you. It took me atleast two years to take things out of bags n boxes and actually live like I wasn't ready to leave at any moment. I was down a decade and half and when i got out it was bad. Even using a cell phone was insane

People don't realize it but wearing your shoes where you sleep brings things like lead, pesticides, and anything you may have stepped in, into your sleeping quarters. Not spitting in the sink means there won't be gross toothpaste residue in the sink.

I did 3 1/2 years in state prison and I was celled up with a lifer and he was one of the coolest and most chill cellie I ever had. I still write him to this day
