Actually the TCAS Gives you a specific command like descend or climb which is automatically activated if autopilot is on but there’s always ATC to help prevent this

traffic alarm is not when a plane crosses your path it is an advanced tracker that looks for other aircraft with transponders in your vicinity to avoid protentional collisions and alerts pilots if there is an imminent collision. so it will let you know if there is another aircraft within i believe 10 miles, and you will hear e.g. "traffic, 3 miles"
