Hermetic philosophy significantly influenced Carl Jung’s psychological theories, particularly his ideas on the psyche, symbolism, and individuation. Jung was drawn to Hermeticism's emphasis on the unity of all things, the correspondence between the macrocosm and microcosm, and the transformative process of achieving higher awareness. He saw parallels between the alchemical quest for the philosopher’s stone and his concept of individuation—the integration of the conscious and unconscious mind to achieve psychological wholeness.

Jung extensively studied Hermetic texts and alchemical imagery, interpreting them as symbolic representations of inner psychological processes. Concepts like the coniunctio oppositorum (union of opposites) resonated deeply with his ideas about balancing opposites within the self, such as the anima and animus, or the shadow and ego. Jung also drew upon Hermetic principles in his exploration of synchronicity, the meaningful alignment between inner experiences and external events, mirroring Hermeticism’s “as above, so below.” This synthesis helped bridge ancient esoteric wisdom with modern psychology, establishing Jung as a key figure in the intersection of mysticism and science.
