Alabama and Nick Saban have seen an uncharacteristic season thus far that has already found the Tide sitting on the outside of the College Football Playoff picture in mid-November. On Late Kick Live Ep 327 Josh Pate responded to a viewer question about what (if anything) is changing with the way Nick Saban runs his program and the standard he tries to uphold. Will we see Alabama bounce back strong this week at Ole Miss? What about changes coming after the season? Alabama will win a couple more National Titles before Saban retires

There's been a drastic change in the college football landscape. Saban's method worked really well with kids who were willing to buy in to get their chance to make it to the NFL. Now with the NIL, some of these kids are already pulling in 6 and 7 figures. It's hard to sell success to people who believe they're already successful.

Saban is extremely adaptable. His continued success at Alabama exemplifies this. Remember when he benched Hurts at halftime in the national championship game for the unproven Tagovailoa?!

Did you see their only one lineman defense! It's coaching!

In my view, the problem with the portal is sometimes you are getting another school's problem player. This team does not look disciplined. I wonder if there are attitude issues with some of the players?

I think he needs a new defensive coordinator, 4/5 stars galore and don’t have a stout defense

Saban has always set the standard on practicing and playing like champions, and it has resulted in championships. When you show up today to practice, are you going to take advantage of the opportunity to create more value for yourself or you gonna piss this opportunity away

No coach in their 70’s has ever won a National Championship and Nick ain’t gonna do it either. He has lost the culture and the toughness that he once enjoyed. He has chased those offensive numbers and Heisman trophies (see Tua against Mississippi State and leaving him in the game up 35-7…then disaster struck) and allowed the toughness in his program to erode over time. Hard for 70+ coach to get that back.

Regarding Saban’s use of the transfer portal, I don’t see anything to change. For 2022, 2 players worked out; 2 were impacted by injuries (and 1 of those eventually became a starter); and 1 crapped out.

I would take my chances on bigger players that move slower vs this rabbit ball we have “adapted” to. We went to faster smaller players because everyone else was and now we can't stop the team that looks like Bama football of old. Outsmarted themselves.

Not even Bama ever had a standard this high before, meaning Saban is now a victim of his own success.

Who do you think he will get as cordenators

A base defense with 2 defensive linemen and at times 1 DL is an issue. Golding needs to go. Too weak against the run. Can’t get off the field.

Interesting to see in ten years they lost 2 games 5 times and only 2019 averaged more points. I would say, the same ole trend is happening but now more teams are getting a lot better. So why are Bama fans crying? They did every year they lost 2 games, nothing has changed.
