Nick Saban and Alabama just landed another top recruiting class, but that doesn't mean it came easy. On Late Kick Live Ep 358 Josh Pate reacted to some recent comments Saban had made to a group of high school coaches about Alabama declining to meet the NIL demands of a former player while also moving on from a top recruit for similar reasons. How do you think NIL is being handled as a whole? Could it be we find College Football in a better place 5 years from now as more structure is introduced? Love Saban's comments! As a coach, you can't allow anyone to "push you around" or you lose all authority and respect from your players.

I’m a Buckeye, but you gotta respect Mr Saban. Love or hate em, he paid his dues. Grew up in WV, loved the game, got his Masters at Kent State and started his coaching career there. He is a legend.

I had already heard about this but I stand by my initial reaction: Way to go, Saban! Hope he keeps that attitude!

I wish more people, especially the talking heads, would listen to Josh. He’s smart, levelheaded, and speaks the truth through evidence and not speculation or emotion. One of the best IMO.

pay a guy that never has proven 1 snap on the field ? Half are busts and never turn out to be what their rankings are.

It’s not that he won’t pay them, he just felt those particular players wasn’t worth the money.

It’s high time that someone puts some guideposts around NIL. The argument for NIL was that a collegiate athlete should be able to profit from name, image and likeness….essentially if someone wants to be paid for autographs or jersey sales, for example, then the athlete is entitled to benefit from that. But now NIL is being used as a recruiting tool for high school athletes that have not established a brand at the collegiate level. I think there’s a big distinction between letting a kid get paid market value for NIL because they’ve earned the value versus speculatively giving money to lure a kid with the risk they may never earn their value.

What about the former players that said Alabama had offered them money when they were being recruited?

Saban right on nil u have to have loyalty to the program not the individual players that our out for me and I.

Michigan and Ohio State are doing the same thing! No one should pay a high schooler anything until they prove it on the field!

Wonder if there will be general guidelines schools go by that say a 5-star LB is worth so and so, a 5-star QB is worth so and so and on and on with 4-stars etc, subject to negotiations.

Can we get a detailed list of how much each university is spending? That would be truly interesting to see. (no need for individual players just generally speaking x-M for the entire roster)

I have watched several of Bamas incoming recruits interviews saying they aren't worried about the money, that's not why they committed to Bama! I'm sure there's a couple other elite schools that are the same way! There are gonna be guys who are about their money, but no at Bama until you've earned it! Last year Bryce was at 3.2 mil after his Heisman
