Such a beautiful piece for the most magnificent instrument!

The unexpected ending of Contrapunctus XIV in not so terrifying than deeply poignant.

I’d describe the C Minor Prelude (BWV 546) as monumental and magnificent. A favorite of mine. The opening chords remind me of those great antiphonal brass pieces of Gabrieli.

I played such an organ . I loved to get the key to the church when it was empty and Let Out All the Stops. I was 9 yrs old. I am now 77. It was great.

Bach Organ works are splendid. I have the complete Organ works, and that BWV 546 really get's incredibly beautiful like most of them do.

As a Lutheran I grew up with Bach and with his organ music, so I was always confused as a kid when people said organ music was "spooky" and unsettling. For me it's always been comforting, it feels like home or like a lullaby. Although I will say if you have heard a good organist play the more somber psalm tones used during the Introit(the congregational chanting of the Psalm at the beginning of the service), then you will know that it has the power to absolutely shake your soul lol.

My pick would be almost all of Gaspard de la Nuit. Even Ondine, though beautiful, builds to a horrifying climax.

If go on Organ Pieces There are Lots, but if I need to choose I would say or the Organ concerto of Francis Poulenc, or the “introduction and passacaglia” by Max Reger. Both are the perfect Halloween soundtracks

I argue that the scariest solo piano piece is Scriabin's Black Mass Sonata.

You know which piece is absolutely staggering, frightening, incredibly beautiful, and just picks you from this world into the middle of the universe to ask deep questions?

Passacaglia in C minor BWV 582. I beg you, try to find some proper interpretation, not some romanticising bs, try Martin Sander's - played on well preserved Joachim Wagner's organ in Nidarosdom in Trondheim. Bach was very fond of Wagner's instruments and this one is a gem and the recording is just incredible. It's not the only great recording, just saying it's amazing.

546 and 537 are the most epic pieces of music ever written, I would not think of them as terrifying

As an American historian who studies the British Royal family, Prelude in c minor gives me flashbacks to the end of a Royal Family member’s funeral, and holy shit it sounds terrifying and in a way that makes it sound better

I showed some organ pieces by Bach to my friends in Thailand, they really are terrified of the sound and quite scared. It does the job, I guess -)

There is a weird Bach's organ fugue where subject is an alternation of ascending and descending notes (something like of Van Halen's "up the sky" intro 😂). And I think it's the prelude/tocatta of this fugue the most terryfing one.

I would say the BWV 542 fantasia g minor is more scary

The triple-stacked rests are terrifying to me 😳

When you are playing the organ alone in church late at night and you feel a presence behind you, you must face it! DON'T TURN YOUR BACH!!!

Daim, i felt that! And it isn’t a good feeling! I’m writing isn’t as in still going on because that unfinished cadence lingers still in me!

Almost poetic
