In 2008, a teenager was hiking through a dense forest in Northern California when he decided to stop and set up camp for the night. He walked a few hundred feet off the main trail into the forest and found a small clearing. After setting up his tent, he climbed inside and went to sleep.

The forests all around were full of people in white. Finally 2 were able to catch their breath enough that while out of breath and exhausted, crawled up to Matt saying, Please dude, we just want to sell you an extended warranty on your tent'! 😮

There's an old logging road in Oregon.
Was in a camping area along that road.
Well at one section it splits off and further into the mountains, while the other direction eventually led to a public hiking spot. I was told not to go to far up that other way as there was really sketchy people living up there making drugs and stuff... 🧐 I'm sure there's all kinds of people out in the wild.

I think Mr Ballen told this story awhile back as well. Park Rangers have talked about wild people living in the most remote places in our vast wilderness areas. Its crazy to consider that here in The US, people existing that have maybe never seen a town, or a city, never seen any modern devices, not knowing anything about the fact they even live in a place called the United States. Kind of envious... Sort of...

This is pretty simple. The couple spotted him long before they took a sighting.

They wore white and acted weird to scare him. He probably didn't keep up with his tracks, and the couple just followed enough to keep him scared. Their white clothes were likely thermals. When they tracked him, they probably went to Earth Tones or Camo.

They could probably spot him a mile away off path because he used a flashlight. He was likely clumsy. So to ghost him very easily.

They came into his camp area, and could hear him sleeping. That's probabaly why they stepped differently, knowing he could hear them.

They probably sized him up for weapons and capability. That could tell he was timid and scared.

All they had to do waa scare him enough, and they knew they would get all of equipment.

If you know you are in dense forest and being followed, you need to catch a slop or spot you can double back, quietly sit low behind a tree off the path and see who is on your six.

Plus if you know people are following you, coming into your campsite, don't set up your campsite. Sit under some brush, and let those wonder and walk off. They will not go far to see where you emerge. Just be aware they will likely be out infront on the path looking for you.

For this guy, they were toying with. If they are going to harm you, that attack would have come much sooner.

They probably hit rich young guys, chase them off, and sell their expensive packs, pack stoves and equipment on eBay.

A huge hike like that with only a knife? I question his "I'm experienced with the wilderness" take.
Never without first aid kits, maybe an emergency phone of some sort and most importantly imo a gun!
