Hummingbird Lookalike: Hummingbird Hawk Moth

preview_player
Показать описание
They look and act similar to hummingbirds, which is why their common name incorporates these small, agile, nectar-drinking birds. Eurasian hummingbird hawk moths hover over flowers and use their long tongue, called a proboscis, to drink up nectar.

The shared characteristics between hummingbirds and this moth are incredible and are a great example of convergent evolution. This concept describes species that look and act similarly but are not closely related.

This was my time ever seeing hummingbird hawk moths and I nearly cried of excitement! You never know what you'll experience no matter where you are.

Stay curious and be kind to nature and one another!

Not often seen in Scotland. I found myself trying to catch this running around my garden with a bucket. I failed incidentally.😊
They like honeysuckle. Smart moth.

And this is when you know you're in a second generation of Life as a series. Someone ran out of ideas and are mixing things that shouldn't mix. Are we in a pokemon kind of series?

It’s like the example of crab-like body types evolving something like 10 different times in history!

But I wish there were more hummingbird convergence and less crab convergence…
