76. War-related Graves, North Road Graveyard, Carrickfergus (Charles Edmonstone Kirk Burial Ground)
Показать описание
The North Road cemetery in Carrickfergus was established in 1859 following a bequest to the town in the will of Charles Edmonstone Kirk of Thornfield and is sometimes called the Charles Edmonstone Kirk Burial Ground. Whilst there are no war fatalities buried in the graveyard, thirteen war fatalities are commemorated at family plots - eight Great War fatalities and five fatalities from the Second World War. Fatalities from both world wars are commemorated at two family plots.
In this talk, Nigel Henderson gives details of the men commemorated at each of the plots. There will also be references to some of the other headstones in the graveyard, for example, the final resting place of a naval officer who died when he fell from a train during a prank and a gravestone commemorating a man who died during a Trans-Atlantic shipping disaster.
