For the beginners who are trying this for the first time, my experience of issues encountered:

1.There is a specific direction for the Wemos Mini to be plugged in, follow the arrow on your LED Strip
2.If only the first and last LED lights up after plugging in, there may be some issue with the soldering/contacts with the pins (it was the ground pin for me), try to resolder the pins to the board.

Happy DIY/Automating.

Spot on tutorial. I have mine up and running following your instructions. Only thing I would add, is double check the LED strip and make sure you wire the LED strip with the arrows (on the strip) pointing away from the ESP8266.

Really appreciate how detailed this tutorial is :) worked a charm once I figured out the USB I was using didn't carry data

This is exactly what I was looking for. However, instead of effects, how can I address and change colours of individual LEDs e.g. in a string of 4 LEDs?

Well done. clean and simple. Also a super concise view into node red... like seriously I need to start playing with that

Very informative video, as I'm looking at adding some strip lights soon.
However, I think the table from The Hook Up is incorrect for referencing wattage. For the WS2812B it says, and you quoted in your calculation, that each LED is 0.18W. But, according to the manufacturer BTF, each LED is 0.3W which is almost double?

Nice video! It help me a lot! Is there a way to turn on the effect instead of white? (whitout to go choosing it)

The latest Home Assistant doesn't show the three dots for the menu that are used to bring up the color and effect panel. Instead, you have to click on the light icon. Great video. Thanks.

Is it safe to run that much amperage through the D1 mini? I've been reading that the most you should run is 1 Amp and with 60 LEDs on a 1 metre strip you're looking at 2ish Amps.

can you please share the whole cave_led.yml file? you went so fast with the effects that im sure it confused others as well. i really need the syntax n format of multiple effects

I'm terribly confused, you mentioned that you need a 5v module because the 3.3v version can't run off the 5v power supply - then went on to use the 3v and reccomend the 3v. Can you clarify please? Should we not buy the Module you've linked in the description and buy a 5v or use the 3.3v one that you said we shouldn't then said we should use?
