...Another ABORTED 'Audition' Video | Necrotic Manifesto | Guitar Cover
Показать описание
Aborted are down a member again, so it's time for my annual audition video, which still won't make them consider or notice me in any way...like always.
Haha just kidding. Well, not completely. It has been like that in the past. They have always avoided me in some way. Couldn't really get in touch with them and I was never contacted either, though I've always expressed interest. But this time I actually wrote Ian, the current guitar player, a message asking about the situation. They'll continue as a 4 piece for now. So yeah, no luck for me again haha.
So that's why it's not a real audition video. But the situation still made me learn a song from the time I tried to get in touch with them the first time, back when Danny left. That time I did "Excremental Veracity" which still on my channel and now the other song I already considered back then: "Necrotic Manifesto".
They are always fun to play and that's why I was always interested in playing for the band. It's like a more approachable version of Defeated Sanity for me. Like not as techy, but still techy, different kind of breakdowns but still breaking things down, and playing wise they are enjoyable in a similiar way. There are still a lot of differences but energy-wise, as a live player, they are almost the same for me. Another reason is that the style is also fun to write. And let's not forget that they are a bigger touring band which is something I've always wanted to do more. Not sure about how I feel about it these days with a stable job, but my interest is still there!
About the playing, I took a semi-approach to the down-picking interlude kind of thing, which is only played once in the song. Frankly, I think this whole down-picking speed often times is just a dick-measuring contest, but I still wanted to play it that way. I just used upstrokes for the open notes which sounds more gnarly in my opinion. (And in my opinion this whole part would sound better with tight alternate picking, because it's exactly that tempo, where down-picking is not really suitable anymore, but that's just my opinion about how I'd play something),
I didn't play Dannys solo because Ian would play that and I didn't really bother with it. Also Mendel had his solo included in his tab, so it saved a lot of work for me. Those bendings are a real bitch to play. I generally hate playing those in that region around the 20th fret. At first I played the bendings on the 24th fret with tapping but for the video I went for the way it's actually played. (When you check guitars all day your fingers are sore often and then you don't want to play stuff like that haha) I still butchered my way through it :)
Tone-wise, I had three different presets. For the final video I used the gnarliest one. It has less definition because the tone of the drive pedal is pretty high but I liked the energy. I had another one that was the same one with a bit more mids and more definition. But that one felt kind of tame in comparison. The original tone I used for recording had a lot more mids and less gain. It was actually too different. Gave me some trouble with reamping because in some parts I picked too hard, which didn't translate as good in the new tone. For recording, consistency is actually better but for those cover videos I like to dig in. If had double-tracked the song I probably would've played it differently.
And here's a funny story about that. My articulation and accents in the tremolo picking part are so weird that I didn't "get" it after the recording. It's basically just in 4/4 with just a shift of one quarter note. With the guitar louder it sounded like completely different thing, like not in 4/4, and I had to double check with the original recording more than a few times to get it again, and to check if I didn't learn and play something wrong lol.
Last thing about the recorded tone: I actually recorded with my guitar tuned to D standard and used the pitch-shifter of the axe fx in the reamping process to get it down to B. I was suprised about the quality. I didn't really like the pitch shifter of the first axe fx, and for playing along both have too much latency, but the quality is alright to do this more often. (Maybe some Spawn Of Possession in the future?) I usually used the transpose function of Ableton to tune the DI track down because the "complex" algorithm sounded good enough for that. But compared to the axe's shifting it's a bit lifeless. The only issues I had were the higher bended notes in the solo. They have some weird artifacts. The reverb and delay on that tone hide them a bit though.
Anyway, that's it. Enjoy the video :)
