Never had cold sores or mono, but had chickenpox, hoping to god it doesn't surface again as shingles. My mom had shingles in her 30s, and nothing for me so far so I think I dodged a bullet. We'll see in a couple more decades lol.

people gain lifelong immunity to measles. But immune systems are not all the same, just as people are not all the same. Some do not mount completely effective immune responses to measles, and seem to only suppress the virus for a time. It remains latent in these people's cells, especially neurons, and can reactivate years later, causing the fatal brain degeneration known as subacute sclerosing panencephalitis. the son of a friend of mine died of SSPE at age 8 after surviving a case of the measles as an infant.

I'm not sure if I got cold sores from my mom or my dad but my dad never kissed on me as a child my mom and her friends did all the time. But I never saw my mom with an oral outbreak of herpes simplex 1 ever. On the other hand my dad had them all the time so I have no idea which parent I got it from. This is something I heard about that some folks have reoccurrence's when others just get them a few times and never see the cold sores again. Also the statistics for people who have herpes simplex 1 is astonishing and it's unbelievable. Something like three out of four people which is just insane. 🤯 There has to be a trick the countering this bugger inside its own genome.
