Great set. I always have had a sweet spot for this quintet, in part due to it being Pat Metheny's first "real" jazz gig. Too bad the video and audio are so out of synch.

I was at Berklee at that time and knew why Pat was in the band: before Pat, the group was playing in Miami, Pat came to the musicians dressing room before the show and asked Gary if he could sit in: Gary asked him what song of the group he was familiar with, and Pat said "any one". I don't know which song he played but thats how he got the gig (Celia Vaz).

Falling Grace! Such a time of change and discoveryl They were changing the face and sound of the music with each time they played, each player so young yet individually creating the soundscape of the future of improvised music. Mick would tell me about the ways his time in this band encapsulated the dynamics of being family, artists, friends and youthful adventurers. They would create sculptures with their instruments on stage, each show beginning with a visual nod to creating something balanced, new, unexpected and dangerously precarious. Mick's time with Swallow at this time sealed a lifetime bond with Swallow with whom he'd cherish to his death.

Great to see and hear this. Saw Gary and the quintet with Pat Metheny this same year Summer of 1974 at The Adirondack Art Center in Blue Mountain Lake New York. Gary and the group returned Summer of 1976 great to see that show also.

One of my favourite "new Jazz" quintets in the late 1970's from the ECM label... Burton, Goodrick, Metheny, Swallow & Moses..wow ! Thanks for sharing.

I saw this grouping in Boston in 1974, it was magical. My first wife didn’t understand the magic and I knew the marriage would go nowhere. . . Saw Coryell later that year, alone.

Several friends and I saw this band in tiny club in Evanston IL in 1974. It was an amazing concert. Metheny was unknown then, but not for long. Burton’s playing spectacular. What a great band!

I had the privilege to see this exact lineup at a vibraphone clinic given by Gary Burton at the University of Houston...he brought the whole group!
They played almost the entire new(at the time) album and in between songs took questions
I had never seen or heard of Pat Metheny, but he was really soaking up the great atmosphere this group created.
A bassist friend of mine and I were amazed and indeed fortunate.

Wow! This is the youngest I've seen Pat Metheny. Crazy 12-string guitar, too! Thanks for posting.

This is so awesome. What a time capsule! And, I'm ashamed to say that I didn't know that a very young Pat Metheny was once in Burton's band.

I saw this group in concert at Glassboro College in New Jersey. First time I ever saw or heard of Pat. I had been a fan of Burton for years before that, starting with George Shearing
