Determine the Quadrant in which the Angle Lies

👉 Learn how to sketch angles in terms of pi. An angle is the figure formed by two rays sharing the same endpoint. Angle is measured in radians or in degrees. One complete revolution about a point is equivalent to 2pi radians and 360 degrees. The angle measured in the anti-clockwise direction is called a positive angle while a negative angle is measured in the clockwise direction. We measure angles starting from the positive x-axis.

To sketch an angle in terms of pi, we make use of the knowledge that the angle made by a circle is 2pi and that made by a straight line is pi. So, we first sketch a circle which we will divide into two. Next, we divide each half of the circle into the number of parts corresponding to the denominator of the angle we want to sketch. The number of parts corresponding to the numerator of the angle we are sketching from the 0 radians point is the angle we are looking for.

I’m sitting here with my unit circle being confused

since we are breaking our circle into 8ths half way around the circle is pi or 8/8pi and all the way around the circle is 2pi or 16/8pi. In between those two measures is between the third and fourth quadrant which is 12/8pi

for those that are confused, he simply multiplied the the radians by 4 to make it visually easier to pin point 11 pi /8
