Video captured the moment a driver bailed out of a moving car on Saturday as it slid on black ice down an off-ramp in Kansas City, Missouri, after the area was hit by a major winter storm. Tow truck company owner DJ Adamson reached out to Houston DeFoe, who posted the video, and was able to recover the car when the roads cleared up. CNN has reached out to the driver for comment.

Once you get on the grass, you get on the brakes.

‘Forced the driver to bail’

No, the stupid driver forced themselves to bail rather than using the last 2 braincells they have to stop the car and prevent causing an accident or injury to others.

What happens if its too slippery to walk off the roadway after bailing out of the car and another vehicle is sliding down the hill right behind you?

Leaving yourself completely unprotected on an icy road is just stupid! Drive to the grass and stop, no problem!

As a Canadian who has driven through plenty of snowstorms. Who needs to get winter tires on his car every year. And has driven in a foot of snow or more for over 2 hours on highways.

This is the stupidest thing I've ever seen someone do when encountering black ice.

Not maintaining control or at least staying with your vehicle will get you a huge fine.

Driver is now culpable for damage and injuries caused by ghost driving her car into traffic and pedestrians.

People listen……slow down and don’t panic.
If you drive into a ditch or onto grass so what ?
You get pulled out and sent on your way.
This lady is going to have police helping her get to the mental health center.

So dumb! Get on the grass and brake! Why would you get yourself on the road and risk getting hit by an out of control vehicle behind you???

Also a kansas city resident. I was driving south on 71 and hit some black ice once. I began sliding and there was nothing i could do. I will never forget the feeling of powerlessness i felt. It was a 02 buick lesabre. It didnt have a setbelt beep warning so i never wore my setbelt. While i was sliding i buckled myself in and accepted my fate. Never once did it occur to me to eject myself from the vehicle 😅😅😅

Luckily i made it past the black ice and straightened out before hitting otber vehicles. The lord was with me that day

What an idiot - at the slow speed she was going, it was far safer to stay inside the steel cage that is your car rather than risk getting caught under the wheels of your own vehicle. And then there's your obligation to not let your car become an unguided missile and at least try to guide it away from other vehicles that contain people or pedestrians. Once she went on grass, the brakes would've worked better.
