Hiking season is short in The Cascades area. We visited Mt Baker in late August 2018 and could still see snow on trails. We hiked is 2 miles (3,2 km) out and back, though you can go further once on top of Table Mountain. We were thrilled to have our friend Carrie visiting and to hike with her! The trail is steep for the first half mile, gaining a lot of elevation. The trail offers fabulous views on Mt Baker and Mt Shuksan, and as far as Baker Lake further South.
Mt Baker is one of the 10 most active and dangerous volcanos in the continental US. Mt Shuksan is a mountain - not a volcano.
Parking for the hike: Artist’s Point
Vaulted bathroom at trailhead. No water.
