It literally affected the entire gaming industry imo, because any games that have those kinds of roles, not just MMOs, tend to have people in the community of many games using those terms. Mainly RPGs but still

Imagine developing a bunch of shorthand for terms at your work to make keeping track of things easier for yourself, and then somehow overnight those shorthands you made for yourself became the industry standard way of referring to those things. Everyone, from other unrelated producers of your product to the consumers that use your product, all now use those little abbreviations you were using for yourself. And they didn't just coincidentally stumble upon the same abbreviations independant of your list, you know exactly why everyone now uses those terms and that it started from you.

Most editors would have a conniption at the very thought given how many potential plagiarism/copy right issues that opens up, let alone the potential IP issues of publishing developer documentation without explicit permission! 😂

I don’t have a glitch, but I do have a “YouTuber who unknowingly did something significant in the gaming industry more than 25 years ago” story. There’s an artist named Scott Christian Sava who does videos about his various projects, the artist’s mindset, or whatever adventures he has had. In one video he talks about how his dad worked at Atari, and one summer he was invited to ride his bicycle around the parking lot every day. He then talks about how he discovered that the was the animation model for “Paperboy.”

That's pretty cool! A slightly less fun tidbit I have is that my grandfather worked for the Raffel brothers as their VP of Operations when they founded Arby's way back in the day, and their condiment horsey sauce (a kind of horseradish mayo) was a recipe of his design. My aunts worked in Arby's as teenagers and one of my aunts was actually the model for the uniform in one of their early training manuals haha. He left the company well before it expanded to as big as it is, but it's a neat little bit of family lore!
