I'm Angela, a user experience and graphic designer who just so happens to be visually impaired! I was born with a rare eye condition called Aniridia. I recently finished graduate school getting my Master of Design. My research was focussed on inclusive design, universal design, accessibility. My specialty is on visual impairment and how designers can improve products and services for a wider range of people regardless of their certain circumstances. I hope you will come along on this journey with me. 💕

I’m autism spectrum and will probably never tell an employer or coworker. I have in the past and people treat you differently. I just need jobs that are quiet

I’ve been applying for jobs, as a visually impaired, here in Milwaukee, I tried to tell during my interviews, and I also tried not to reveal during the interview, but both are still turned out. When I revealed my disability during my interview, they didn’t wanna hire me. Then when I tried to hide my disability, and revealed it after 2 weeks of my work with my good performance, they just told me that I was supposed to let them know during my interview, so they fired me. It’s not easy to find a job as a visually impaired because discrimination does exist and it’s too painful because we just wanna live a normal life, but they won't give it to us, some think that we deserve lesser than less.

Thank you! I lost a job because I asked for accommodations which helped my disability acceptance. I was watching today because I would really like to try working again. I have a lazy which my eyes look like your when I’m tired because my prism glasses don’t keep my eyes looking “normal” and also have a husband that is low vision in one eye and completely blind in his other eye who is actively looking but can’t get past the interview.

What about debilitating disabilities or disabilities that change with time or might get more disabling? Disclosing them is relevant for access but they feel like a reason to get fired or not selected.
