"Patriot" – the new pilot from Amazon Digital Studios – features a soundtrack of both original and classic folksongs, including this exclusive rendition of Townes Van Zandt's "If I Needed You" performed by Terry O'Quinn and Michael Dorman.

PATRIOT follows the complicated life of intelligence officer John Tavner (Australian newcomer Michael Dorman, Wonderland). John’s latest assignment, to prevent Iran from going nuclear, requires him to forgo all safety nets and assume a perilous "non-official cover" -- that of a mid-level employee at a Midwestern industrial piping firm. A bout with PTSD, the Federal government’s incompetence, and the intricacies of keeping a day job in industrial piping cause a barrage of ever-escalating fiascos that jeopardize the mission.

The pilot also stars Terry O’Quinn (Lost) as John's State Department Director of Intelligence father Tom, Michael Chernus (Manhattan), as John's older brother Edward, a Texas congressman, Kathleen Munroe (Call Me Fitz), as John's wife Alice, Aliette Opheim (Sandor slash Ida) as Agathe, a brilliant young homicide detective from Luxembourg hot on John's trail, and Kurtwood Smith (That 70s Show) as Mr. Claret, John's stickler of a new "boss" at the piping firm. PATRIOT is written and directed by Steven Conrad (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The Weather Man), and executive produced by Gil Bellows (Temple Grandin), Conrad, Glen Ficarra (Crazy Stupid Love, Focus), Charlie Gogolak (Focus), and John Requa (Crazy Stupid Love, Focus).

I find this scene very unsettling on a second watch through.. the way John chuckles at 0:04 makes me think that he might be traumatized by this song 'cause it's always been the ringtone of his "call off the mission" phone. It's crazy how such an endearing scene can change when put into context.
