Hold the rear hatch button for about 2 seconds and it will unlock only the rear hatch one time, open it to load / unload your stuff..close it then it will automatically lock itself.

The lift gate button on this model does nothing but unlock. However on the 2015 model now it operates the power assisted lift gate. I can only assume that hyundai designed the key with the view to adding it at a later date and not needing to modify it.

The proximity key will sense when you are at the rear of the Santa Fe and with all doors locked, pushing the soft button on the rear door will open the hatch while keeping the other doors locked. Once closed and the proximity key removed from the area, all doors are again locked. Unless all doors are unlocked you can't open the rear hatch, you will need the proximity key on you to open the rear hatch.

The hatch button will unlock the hatch. Now you would only utilize the button on the key fob if you are far away from the vehicle and only want to unlock the hatch for someone while keeping the rest of the car locked. 

I have a Santa Fe sport 20.t Limited 2013 and to be honest I have never used it.

As long as the key fob is in on you, it will simply unlock using the standard trunk release handle.

My thoughts, I know Hyundia has their next 5 models of this vehicle already lined up and decided. I'm thinking that hatch button will eventually correspond to a Auto lift gate for maybe the 2016 model maybe for the 2015's if there lucky. :)

It might just be me but i like the fact that this car only has a back up camora. I mean really people how much more dobyou need? Look before you drive. People are starting to rely on these technologies way to much. Lift the hatch yourself. They are not heavy. So what if you have to hold a button down for two secounds to have it roll down. At least you dont actually have to do it manually. Ibswear people are just getting dummer and more lazy as time goes on.

Such a gorgeous car!  I will be purchasing one after my Mustang GT dies.  That's right, I'm going from a Mustang GT to a Santa Fe! :P  My family has owned Santa Fes for 10 years, and my hubby drives a 2012 Hyundai Elantra.  We love it.

I own the Santa fe sport 2.4 fwd (with all the teh packages) and my parents own the top of the line awd santa fe limited and the key fobs look identical.  Thing is that in the santa fe (the three row version) if you hold the trunk button the trunk opens and closes automatically.  I think Hyundai simply overlooked the fact that they printed hold on the Santa Fe sport 'smart' key fobs as well. Therefore, it does nothing if you hold it. They also fail to mention in their manual how to stop the side-mirrors from folding when you reverse (place the power mirror selector in the middle), so I think there is just soo much detail it is impossible to find it all before releasing the car.

Agree with reviewer it would be optimal if the rear hatch had a pop up glass.

Seems more refined then our new Mazda CX5 Grand Touring. Does the system tell you which tire is low? Does the suspension seem wishy washy like the Sorrento? How is the fuel economy? This seems like a nice car, these crossovers in general are outstanding around town vehicles.

One thing I wish vehicle reviewers would focus on more is bluetooth functionality.  I really love it in my truck both for handling calls and listening to music but very few people mention it in their reviews

This guy needs to understand the difference between saying Honda and Hyundai. A car reviewer should be able to do that easily.
Honda is pronounced the way it is (hon-da) and Hyundai is pronounced Hun - day.

this button unlock the boot lock only if the car is locked, and when u close the boot once done, the car will relock itself thus locking the boot

this button working only when the car is off if u want to open the hatchback door you can open it without opining the main doors it will open it only and when u close is car will close auto
