Do not use your legal name on social media, including you tube. Use a middle name, nickname or make up a "stage name"

I think it's important that once your video is ready to be uploaded you give it a final watch just to check it for potential privacy issues e.g. in the background.

As I've started to vlog, one of the things that I've been sure not to do is wear any t-shirts that could identify our frequent locations. So for instance, team shirts, school shirts, work shirts...anything with a city logo. I've also been mindful of not filming the exterior of our home.

Remember that future employers etc can look you up and watch all your videos! The landlords to the house we are about to move into mentioned that they found our vlogs. Never mentioned it to them, but they were doing a background check for approval. Keep it kosher!

I'm not a parent, but I would think long and hard before putting my kids on YouTube if I were. Not just for privacy reasons or safety. You need to remember your kids have to grow up and lead their own lives; what you put up on YouTube of them is never going to go away and could come back to bite them later.

I don't vlog so I feel like I'm not affected by this too much, but I'm definitely still careful! Thanks for all the great tips!

Awesome tips! QOTD : Our one tip is to add your address and other close family/friends addresses that frequent your videos to your blacklisted words. Obviously, if someone finds your address they can still share it off youtube - but, it keeps your address from being publicly shared to the main mass of your viewership! :)

That's why I don't show my face and I don't use my real name. lol! Call me paranoid but there's some crazy people out there these days.

This is a smart video. I've seen people put their address in the description box asking for people to send them mail. I was really surprised because I thought it was common knowledge to get a P.O. Box ... and maybe get it in the next neighborhood over from you just to be careful.

I always post my vlogs a day or two later from the original day

I always ask permission before I vlog a person.

We made the decision to keep the kids off the internet until they are old enough to decide for themselves, which is why I don´t really vlog. My husband appears every now and then, but very rarely. Keeping your privacy is very important, especially when you start reaching a larger audience.

You mention about keeping your information secure and then the free YouTube checklist in the description asks for your name and e-mail address. That's kinda backwards.

I don't tell my last name on my channel, and it's not on my personal Facebook page either if people are searching for my information. My personal social media is completely closed off to the public except my profile picture. We also never show the front of our house or say which city we live in...just general metropolitan area. We are also considering getting a home security system...just in case there are crazies out there.

+Video Influencers Benji, being in or having been in real estate you are probably familiar with this but one suggestion is that if you own your own home, own it in the name of a Fictitious Deed of Trust that way your actual name is not on the Title making it more difficult to find out your address.

Def something to think about especially with everything going on! Great video! I think the most important thing is not letting social media know in advance where you will be on a certain day. If you Vlog post your video and talk about where you went and all of that after the fact that you were there. New subscriber!

These are definitely great tips! The few times I have ever used the "check in" feature on Facebook was when I was out of town traveling. I never take photo's outside my home, except on my back deck because there's nothing but trees, making it harder for someone to locate me. I try to avoid showing anyone's license plates in a photo/video because that would give away my state. I've even considered not taking photo's or videos near landmarks or typical tourist hot spots in my area because that too would give away my location. Thanks for the great videos, I've been binge watching many of them this morning, learning a lot!

I am new to the YouTube community and find it a task to keep identifying factors out of my frame. I convinced myself to keep my stage arena as simple bedroom background or outside at a random destination against greenery without markers to identify location. It's still a task when I film solo. I have my diplomas on a wall that could narrow my privacy. but the light and angle looks great at that wall...but I just adapt and readjust. Thanks for the tips and looking forward to more videos.
