The Lion King Pitch Meeting

Disney’s original Lion King movie from 1994 is one of the most beloved animated kids movies of all time. It made so much money that Disney is making it again! This time in “live-action” which essentially means very good CGI. Although the original is a classic and characters like Simba, Nala, Mufasa, Zazu, Scar and more are iconic now -- the movie isn’t without its questionable moments. Like what’s up with Scar controlling the weather? Why is the brother-sister romance so… romanticized? Why are lions even kings? To answer all these questions and more, step inside the pitch meeting that led to The Lion King. It’s super easy, barely an inconvenience.

- “That’s a little on the nose”
- “No it’s a big one on his eye” 😂😂😂

Seems like Pitch Meetings only somehow get better Ryan! Solid work as always.

only Ryan George can make me enjoy a re-run

I always took the "I can't wait to be king" song as high-lighting Simba's naivete. He doesn't really understand what he's asking for as he's just a selfish child.

3:44 is one of my favorite bits in any pitch meeting. The fact that someone signed off on the Nala "do me" face is a very weird but clearly true fact that has now made me rethink the things I saw as a child.

Feels weird not ending the video with "Hey, Ryan here! Hope you enjoyed that Pitch Meeting!"

"You're being weirdly ok with cat incest" was not a sentence I predicted I'd hear today.

I like that they started adding older pitch meetings to this channel. Hoping to see the lord of the rings next!

I think the implication of Just Can't Wait to be King was that Simba didn't fully understand death, or the idea that a king can die. Zazu says "What you don't realize--" before he's cut off. He was going to explain the concept to him.

Later on Simba asks his dad if they'll always be together. Mufasa explains the stars. Simba thought that his dad would just retire.

Matthew Broderick actually can sing (he has headlined several Broadway musicals), just for some reason they did not have him perform Simba's songs in the movie.

Good news is that this pitch meeting could cover the animated AND the live action versions!

Re-uploading old pitch meetings is tight. Can't wait to cash in on it a few times.

I want to feel bad about these repeats but let’s be honest, how many of us don’t go back and constantly re-watch these things anyway? Ryan is hilarious and I just can’t wait for the next pitch. I’m glad he’s found this success. He’s earned a break.

You know, I never thought about it, but the lions eating the hyenas makes perfect sense. There was clearly an absence of food at that point, they had to survive somehow, and the pridelands *are* suspiciously low on hyenas afterward. Usually Pitch Meetings exposes plotholes, but you actually filled one this time!

For the Scar not killing Simba part I personally think he didn't want to risk the chance that the other lions could smell Simba's blood on him.

[Edit: Wow didn't think this would get so many likes]

"Why do they call him Scar?"
"Cuz he's got a scar on his face"
"O0hh that's a little on the nose"
"N0oo, it's a big one on his eye"
"Never mind"

Love that little exchange at 1:26

2:57 "He walks across a log until he's all grown up." LOL! Disney forgetting to age Timone and Pumbaa at the same rate.

1:10 “One of those groups is clearly getting a better deal out of that.” Yes, and that group is the herbivores! The energy that can propagate through a food chain gets cut down to 10% each level so animals farther down have more energy available. Let’s also not forget that foraging is probably easier than hunting…
