The generation 1 games were positively MASSIVE for their time, codewise, and from the sound of it the coding was basically held together with a digital equivalent of bubblegum and scotch tape. So yeah, it's no wonder they're buggier than a Bug Catcher's team!

When I was young and had this for the gameboy, I accidently glitched my game and got all my pokemon up to lvl 200, but when I lvled it went down to its original lvl

Glitch city is not dependent on how you get to places but what places you go mainly because it is dependent on how many warp tiles there are on a map this is important because when you leave the safari zone gate the game is programmed to take you to warp tile 4 of what ever map you were last on this kind of programming is an issue because since you can trick the game in this way if you go to a map with less then 4 warp tiles it freaks out and loads something that doesnt exist i.e glitch city it is also why when you tried cinnibar island it didnt work cuz that map has more then 4 warp tiles and the 4th tile happend to be the pokemart so thats where the game took you but yee thats what i know about glitch city idk if you knew just wanted to put this here for anyone who was curious

Your cousin encountered Mewtwo on the coast because the Pokemon you run into when you do the Old Man glitch are determined by your character's name. This is because the left-facing shore tiles don't have correctly programmed encounter data, and during the cutscene, the game stores your name in the wild encounter table, but it doesn't clear it properly, meaning you can encounter Pokemon based on your name. A letter D in the player's name translates into a Mewtwo encounter, I'm PRETTY sure it's a capital D, but it could be lower case, and by the way, IT IS CASE SENSITIVE, so a a lower case D and an upper case D would give different Pokemon. What order the letters in your name are in also matters, because some of them also translate to what levels the Pokemon you encounter will be.

10:20 that particular glitch city takes you exactly 100 tiles south of Cinabar Island. Though surfing up to the barriers crashes the game

The reason cinnabar island has those random Pokemon is because pretty much any and all unused wild Pokemon data was put there. That's also why it's the only place you can glitch missingno.

The reason he found Mewtwo is because when you do the old man glitch it creates encounters with the player name and different names generate different Pokémon so when you go to cinnabar island when you surf on that strip it does not have an encounter table so it uses the last one the game used and encounters the Pokémon with the name of the player so his name has a letter in it that has Mewtwo

You can get Mewtwo's if you're doing the Missingno glitch. It won't be in any encounter tables otherwise

I used to check out as many glitch cities as I could. I found a set-up that allowed me to surf an endless mass of water. I kept surfing till the game crashed

I remember invoking glitch city, of some sort, by going into safari zone, doing exactly a certain number of steps, then save, then having to go to one of the houses inside safari zone within the remaining steps, something something something, magic. No clue tho what the point was. I think we thought that using the fishing rod in glitch city would let you catch a mew or something.

The hardest glitch pokemon to get is 0xCA, because you have to get it from appearing the expanded party, traded PC4SH from R&B, evolves from 3 other glitch pokemon at level 234, and of course ace

theres a glitch where you go to the safari zone and tap one of the arrow buttons you can still find pokemon but i wont count as a step

Talking to old man replaces the wild pokemon data that it checks for encounters with your name data temporarily

the box reminds me of how some of my pokemon's names got corrupted yesterday when i did the mew glitch for some reason my farfetched got renamed to 3 pokemon center tiles and if i brought it with me outside it turned into town tiles! the name even turned into farfetched's sprite when brought into battle. pretty neat but this is even neater!

Very old video, but your friend got Mewtwo in that area because of his name. For some reason, your name corresponds to your encounters using the Missingno. glitch. Mewtwo corresponds to D, so he had to have a D in the 3rd, 5th, or 7th character of his name. And according to bulbagarden, the even letters correspond to the level. If you use weird characters like ! or pk, you encounter glitch trainers (which I think is really fun!). Weird, I know.
