7M-GTE for life. Just requires proper prep. Not swapping what my '92 came with. 400-500HP is more than enough to fun and more importantly, reliable.

I always imagined having a 1Jz swapped MK3... Now that I have an MK3, I prefer having the 7MGTE tbh.

Have my eyes on an aristo v300 with the 2jz Gte since Mk4's are going for insane prices

Stock 7MGTE bottom end is good for 500hp+ with a standalone. Personally, I wouldn't bother building a 7M for high HP. Too many nuances. Just buy a 2JZGE VVTI and go forged. This comes from someone who runs a 7MGTE. It's a great street engine, but it's not people's first choice.

Great history lesson. But seriously who is going to use a stock 30yr old engine these days? I can suggest revisiting this video with refresh and basic rebuild.

The 1jzgte internals from the factory is superior to the 7mgte. However if you prep the 7mgte it has a higher potential than the 1jzgte. Unless you swap the 1jz heads with 2jz block its usually maxes out around 700-800 rw hp. I’ve only seen a few higher than 800 rwhp. 7mgte record i believe is 1750 hp Theres no replacement for displacement.

This video has a lot of conflicting information.. 7m is prepped with a metal head gasket and ARP head studs. Of course with supporting mods and a good tune You can make the same power as any of the other engines stock block which is up to that 700 horsepower range. After that you're kind of playing with fire with any of those engines 7M 1j or 2j. You want to build the engines with any of the three at that point if you want a reliable engine that's going to hang and handle 700 plus wheel horsepower with longevity. So really it's a matter of preference, your budget, and what you're going to be using the car for. If it's a streetcar, drag, or just cruising and you already have a 7M just build it. But if you really want to swap , or you're doing something like drifting or competition racing and that's only what you're using it for then 1 or 2j is probably the best bet for those. But 2j is a little bit more stable when it comes to oiling and such. With other mods to the oil pump, dry some setups, etc the others could work too but less headaches with the 2j
