The hallmark of a really good tutor is to explain the very complex in simple terms so that the students can readily understand and this what you do very effectively Alison - 10/10

Of all the music teachers online or even in music schools this was the best lesson i came across. Appreciate your effort and your time spent to create this video. Most teachers in India under trinity college dont have idea about theory, kind of angry at trinity board who should evaluate and scrutiny all its centers and instructors in India.

@phobulous Thank you for noticing my 'vocal error'
Its difficult to talk on video whilst concentrating on delivering the information whilst also thinking about what Im going to say next!!
I have changed the description under the video now as I cant change the actual video.

Thank so much for these free violin lessons, I have been watching them, so far from lesson 1 to 4 and the basics music theory. I got a violin 6 years ago as my birthday present, because it was my wish to learn to play it, but I never touch it. I was so busy working, no time or $ for my lessons. Now I have time, and I really enjoy your videos, I like to learn new things and this is one of my bucked list wishes, please do not stop posting more videos, especially for beginners like me.

Thank you so much for doing these videos! So many children are excluded from learning a musical instrument nowadays, because their parents can't afford it (it was free at school, in my day!) Videos like yours are invaluable. My daughter has 15 minutes a week, with a tutor at school, because that's all we can afford, so I often show her your videos, to help clarify things, and inspire her. I can't even express how grateful I am! You're an angel! x

Love, love, love your vids!!! Thank you for your previous assistance (referring me to see a violin luthier regarding my bridge.) On this video, six years later. I just wanted to mention one way that I was told by a music teacher in my third grade music class, is how to memorize the whole rest vs half rest. "Imagine a gentleman wearing his top hat. A man who meets a lady does a very polite bow will remove his hat when he bows. This takes longer - 4 counts. A man who passes another man on the street will bow his head and tilt his hat a bit. This takes shorter time - 2 counts." and that was how I remembered whole vs half rest.

She seems like a very respectable woman. I've been a musician for a while. I've had my violin for two days. Already knowing some basics of music theory and stringed instruments makes it come a little more naturally to me than it would if I did not already have experience. I still have a lot to learn. Many guitarists do not know how to read music. I only knew a little. The violin is such a sophisticated instrument. I admire the culture of sophistication that seems to come with it. It would have been very good for me if I grew up admiring more people like this

I'm very lucky to have started lessons with a private piano teacher who has worked for ABRSM for many years. Him and his wife hold the exams at their house, so I guess there is an added advantage as he will know what to teach to cover the exams properly. Thanks for the videos Alison :)

I am doing my Grade 1 theory exam in about one week. I cannot stress enough how relevant and simple the worksheet is. I've done curriculum books - they are tedious and verbose. I am now confident that I will have absolutely no problem tackling Grade 1 theory (not that I would anyway, since I am a Grade 4 pianist).

My sister, however, has been playing the clarinet for only about 2 years and her teachers have failed to teach her many of the basics of reading music (e.g. dotted notes, dynamic expressions, triplets, and key signatures), and this will aid her A LOT in grasping vital musical concepts. I really appreciate this. :D
