“Numbers 4 and 9 are considered to be unlucky numbers because 4 in Japanese is sometimes pronounced し (shi) which means “death”. In Japan, hospitals and some hotels don't have a 4th floor. Often, the room number 4 and rooms 40 through 49 are not there.” - google results

In my opinion, Canon really needs to stop taking notes from Apple and stop pumping out camera bodies with EXTREMELY incremental improvements (as they're grossly over saturated to begin with) and instead shift focus to their (frankly lackluster) lens ecosystem. Both Sony and Nikon offer a solid lineup of lenses and are open to 3rd party lenses, what's Canon's excuse?...

Makes sense to me. The rumors I saw were about the R4 seemed odd.

4:08 the video you're talking about was built using A. I. this is basically saying its an R5 in a full body (R1/R3) camera

The size of the image circle that a lens provides is a physical limit to the amount of Ibis. You can't move the sensor out of the image circle and even moving the sensor close to the edge of the image circle cause a lot of vignetting that has to be corrected digitally. So the additional stop of Ibis might just mean that the camera relies on digital vignetting correction even more than before. Nine stops means 512 times the exposure time.

I consistently experienced worse image stabilization performance on the R8 compared to the R10, regardless of my efforts to improve it. I was able to successfully shoot at remarkably slow shutter speeds with the R10, but my success rate with the R8 seems to be significantly lower. This may be due to more restricted movement of the stabilizing element within the lens to ensure coverage of the entire sensor area.

Thank you for the response to the canon r4. I could see an R4 being a combination of an R3 and r5, but nothere would it be connected to a canon r6 ii. Keep the good the good work, and have a wonderful holiday season.

This all came from a really put together video that came up on my your feed this week I think.
I think the R2, R4 & R9 were left out to fill speciality cameras as trends change.
Obviously Canon R&D department already have such cameras and just waiting until the competition drops there's, however I do think canon will give us a Megapixel camera somewhere in the 30a but it would make sense to build that into the R6 instead of creating a whole new line of cameras.
What Canon may do is since the R6 is sort of a baby R3 they may create a big brother to the R5 and call it the R4, or king of all crop-sensors and call it the R4, who really knows? What I know is they have a camera for every situation and from a business standpoint it wouldn't make sense to add a new line right now but update the current lines the R3/5/6/7&8.
I think the king of crops will take the R4 spot eventually.

I think you're 100% right. I think if there was going to be an r4 it would probably be a good slot for the global shutter camera. Specifications would be a lot different

The R42 will be the camera that provides full photographic enlightenment. (If you know, you know).

I agree with you Simon. The next logical next step in megapixel counting to fit between the R5 and the current R6 mark II would be 32 megapixels and would logically be in the R6 Mark iii. I would think an R4 might be a larger 60 megapixel if anything, above the R5. Then what about the R3?? Although a Quad Autofocusing System would go nicely with the name R4. lol

No doubt, Canon is introducing the R4 alongside the RF 200-500mm f/4! The introduction is being held in Scotland in order to present a Loch Ness marketing tie in.

Too many models as it is now. Canon definitely does not need to add to its body lineup.

Logically if there possible to have R4, it must be between R3 and R5II, because there is never lower number camera level R1, R2, R3, R5, R4, R6, R8, R10, R50, R100 it sounds stupid to believe.

Or a ASP-C equal to the R5 mark 2 (EOS R7 Mark 2 with battery grip) & (2- CFB) and reto full frame camera R9 (F-1 with battery grip) (2 SD)

Hi Simon, only got 6 min into the video (for now), before rushing to another meeting here.
There's no way an R4 will happen .. EVER. Simply because in Japan is the 4 is even much worse than 13 in the USA 😛
An R2 and R9 can still happen someday, not an R4 !

I waiting on the Flagship ASP-C and retro full frame camera.

just by the name R4, you know it is fake. Canon never use the number 4.

Too many "near features" to the R5-2 and what an R6-3 would offer. I'm calling this one a hoax. I think the R7-2 at this time makes more sense, as well as the R6-3. Anything like an R4 or R2 is fiction at this time. Nice sounding camera on paper though! 👍 Thanks for the debunking video, Simon!
