What is Dyspraxia?

Alyshia Boettcher is an adult with dyspraxia and was recently diagnosed with autism. She holds a Masters in Secondary Teaching and works as a learning enrichment teacher in New South Wales in Australia. She has been an educator for 6 years and has taught in rural and low SES areas. She focuses on grades 7-10. During this discussion we explore the following questions:

1. As an adult and educator with dyspraxia, how can you explain what dyspraxia is and how can educators and parents identify signs in their children or students?

2. What does the special education landscape look like in Australia, specifically Sydney where you’re located, and are educators well versed in understanding dyspraxia?

3. As an educator with dyspraxia and autism, how do you feel this impacts your teaching in positive ways?

4. Can you give parents and educators 3-5 tips on how to best support their child with dyspraxia?
