Why Hurricane Lee’s rapid intensification has meteorologists and climate scientists worried

Hurricane Lee is churning through the Atlantic and likely to impact America’s east coast. Most concerning is the hurricane’s rapid intensification from a category 1 to a category 5 storm over the course of a few days, which is unprecedented. Climate Scientist Chris Gloninger walks through these worrying developments with American Voices host Alicia Menendez.

I seem to remember a lot of hurricanes rapidly intensifying. I don’t think this is “unprecedented”. Enough of the weather hysteria.

No sure why they are saying this is unprecedented. In meteorology, *rapid intensification* is a situation where a tropical cyclone intensifies dramatically in a short period of time. The United States National Hurricane Center defines rapid intensification as an increase in the maximum sustained winds of a tropical cyclone of at least 30 knots (35 mph; 55 km/h) in a 24-hour period.

Rapid intensification is rare but not * unprecedented* with just one or two Atlantic storms per year undergoing such an acceleration. That said, *most storms that reach the highest categories, Cat 3, 4 and 5, reach these intensities through rapid intensification* .

In a 24-hour time span, Patricia's maximum sustained winds increased by 120 mph (195 km/h), the fastest such intensification in any hurricane observed by the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

Looks like that where this Hurricane won’t make landfall so now it’s necessary to gin up fear by other means.

It takes a hurricane to keep MSNBC from bashing Trump, or the republican party. Wow!

You don't know if we will have more....but you're sure they will be more intense... oh ok!

Why are they not talking about that amazing video of the eye.

The hurricane has now rapidly diminished, and we wonder if this rapid expansion might’ve been a instrumentation error.

I want you to run that whole more water in one place than another due to time of year thing past me again. I'm seriously missing something here.

There has been hurricanes since the dawn of time

I am a native Floridian of 70 years. Hurricanes often rapidly intensify anytime they transverse warm water. Duh.

Look up what a cloud vapor chamber is and who invented it. The Earths'atmosphere is a cloud vapor chamber. This will make storms and hurricanes make more sense. Traditional explanations for weather are only a fraction of what is really happening. It is more the vapor chamber (atmosphere), EMF from the sun, and the Earths' magnetic field. Yes pressure and temperature are a factor. The driving force is the electromagnetic fields effects on the atmosphere.

When multiple necessary factors for intensification coincide, expect intensification to ramp up very quickly.

No more war pigs have the power, Hand of God has struck the hour. Do you know the Master of the Sea? Even the winds and the waves obey Him.

Then why is it listed as a 4 reducing to a 3 on the weather channel?
