Imagine charging extra for a service that does nearly nothing. Thanks for the info, this is a pretty big deal.

Thank you for putting this out there, and taking the time to do all the proper research and share the results. So helpful! 🙌

Thank you so much for this. Was making my business email and was hit with the same offer to activate Domain Privacy. Some Domain Privacy provider seem so much like a scam, and uses fear to get people to pay them instead of genuinely trying to help.

Thanks again man. Really appreciate it.

Just what I needed. Thanks a ton.

Although im surprised even Google domains warns you about privacy protection. Its been 5 years since GDPR came into effect, and even Google is spouting the same rubbish?

*WARNING* This video is a bit misleading. Don't assume you can skip purchasing Privacy Protection and still be protected. Tony cherry-picked registrars that happen to comply with GDPR and still charge for Privacy Protection anyway. But that's not very common. In other words, in the beginning of the video, Tony registers a couple domain names and shows us that his personal information in the whois database has been redacted, even without purchasing Privacy Protection from the registrar. It seems as though he is just selecting registrars at random and showing us that personal information is hidden by default. When you combine that with his brief explanation of GDPR, you are now under the impression that new laws were passed in 2018 that automatically protect you but that is simply not the case. The registrars Tony seemingly chose at random both had two common traits: 1.They actually DO comply with GDPR, 2. They still charge extra for privacy protection anyway. Very rare. Most registrars DO NOT comply with GDPR and WILL publish your personal information unless you DO purchase Privacy Protection. Or they DO comply and DO NOT try to charge you extra for it—like Google (apparently. I have not verified this myself) So don't assume you can just skip it and be alright. I did. But since my registrar was bugging me to purchase Privacy Protection every single time I logged in, I realized it's unlike me to believe information like this without verifying it first. So I did a whois check on my domain and lo and behold, there was all my information - exposed to the world. Luckily for me it was my business info and not personal but still not cool. The point is, don't just assume you're protected. Check for yourself.
